Dressed for gardening!

There are lots of buds opening, showing their colors in the Village gardens. Tomato plants are getting their yellow flowers and strawberries are getting ready for the table. At this time of year every day has new flowers opening. There is a row of dahlias on Duff Street that I look forward to seeing every year. Dahlias are the national flower of Mexico, where the Spanish discovered them growing in the 1500s.

The farm stand still has garden plants available! I bought some really healthy looking tomato plants there during their May Plant Sale. The Farm Stand sells fresh eggs and vegetables, Wednesday through Saturday, 7 am to 7 pm. Last year the Gore Farm donated over two tons of produce to various charities through the Boston Area Farm Gleaning Project. Phone 781-894-2798 or go to www.GorePlace.org/farm.htm.

Cuttings

Belmont's Sergi Farm, under new ownership, is now Belmont Acres Farm. It is in the same location at 34 Glenn Road. Their farm stand will be open in late June. For hours phone 617-866-0232 or visit www.BelmontAcresFarm.com. It is amazing to go on Google Earth and see the size of this farm right in the middle of suburban Belmont.
