Village Condominium Association

Village Garden Awards
by J. F. Weiler

The Garden Committee is pleased to announce the 2011 Awards. We enjoyed seeing the many, many fine flower and vegetable gardens throughout the Village. The gardens certainly make the Village a more pleasant condominium to live in. We wish to thank all the Village gardeners for their work.

The Best Garden is at the rear of 81 Pierce Road. Pat Power's three-season cottage garden has a delightful selection of flowers. Pat's choice of flowers, their size, colors and diverse shapes, enhances her garden. Her sign "Grow Happiness" describes what many of the Village gardeners experience. Pat will receive the Village Condominium Association award of $50. Congrats to Pat!

The Best Courtyard is 42 to 56 Grant Avenue. The bright pink impatience enliven a pleasant, tree shaded courtyard. The Courtyard gardeners will receive a $25 Garden Shop gift certificate from Wilson Farms of Lexington.

Honorable Mentions were awarded to:

60 Pierce Road, rear. Mary's garden has an excellent selection of bright yellow sunflowers, a real magnet for honey bees.

22 Grant Avenue, rear. Alice Wadden has enthusiastically grown a wild meadow of brown-eyed susans.

117 Pierce Road. Carol Spellman is a champion at growing morning glories that have all been carefully trained to climb heavenwards.

12 Duff Street. Stephanie Karakozian's huge, sensuous, red hibiscus flowers create a nice tropical illusion! They are "Moy Grande" hibiscus with nine-inch diameter flowers. They are also known as rose mallows.

Unofficial Best Garden Ornament!
