Village Condominium Association

Candidates' Statements

The following are statements submitted by the candidates for the board of managers in the 2011 election.

Liz Bishoff

I hereby declare candidacy for the Board of Managers at the Village. I feel that as a new unit owner, I could bring fresh ideas and represent the Village community as a whole. As editor of the Village Newsletter, I like to stay involved and current on the association affairs. I have an interest in the neighborhood, improvements, and vision for a safe, clean, attractive community. If elected, I will to the best of my ability support and abide by the association's principles and regulations.

I'm currently a Senior Manager of Strategic Operations in Watertown at athenahealth where I have been working for the past 8 years. As an operations manager, I have budget and fiscal responsibilities as well as oversight of implementing changes for the greater good. I consider myself a leader who can represent what is right, even if it is not the most popular stance. My knowledge is carried over into real estate; growing up in a family of investors, developers, brokers, and property managers I have working knowledge of how condominium associations are operated. I'm also a Massachusetts licensed Real Estate Broker and have a broad knowledge of the industry, which I feel could bring great value as a board member.

I graduated from Suffolk University as a Pi Alpha Alpha honor recipient with a masters in health administration after completing comparative studies abroad in Ireland and Puerto Rico. I also hold a B.S. from the University of New Hampshire and have completed licensure courses for Massachusetts Real Estate Brokers through the American Real Estate Academy in Waltham.

I currently volunteer as a mentor for students in the Suffolk University community, helping them with transitioning into college. In addition, I have been the newsletter editor for the Village since August 2009.

Adrine Beurklian

I have lived at the Village Condominium since 1996, residing at 290 Lexington Street. I enjoyed living at the Village Condominium for all those years. I have been on the Board of Managers since 2007, serving as Vice-President. Presently, I am serving as President on the Board of Managers. I was a landlord for ten years at Worcester for a three-unit building. I know what it takes to maintain a building by budgeting and keeping up with repairs as needed.

I have a bachelors degree in chemistry. I worked for a pharmaceutical company in quality assurance for 15 years. My responsibility is to make sure the company's employees are following good laboratories practice, good manufacturing practice, and regulation of FDA guidelines. If they were not followed I was training, documenting, guiding, and following up with them to comply with the rules and regulations.

Based on my work experience I will follow the rules and regulation of the Village Condominium by-laws and guide the residents of the Village Condominium.

Presently I am serving as President of the Board of Managers. The last four years I have learned a lot about Village Condominium needs. Serving on the Board of Managers is challenging and hard work. I would like to continue being on the Board of Managers and serving the Village Condominium residents.

John Hostage

I have lived in the Village since 2003. I have managed the Village website and the "Village chatter" email list for several years. I have previous experience serving on the board of a small condo association. I am a librarian at Harvard.

Alice C. Marullo

I am a teacher in the Newton Public Schools. I have taught preschool, kindergarten and first grade in both the public and private sectors. Prior to her teaching career, she was an administrator in a Boston law firm. She has served on numerous educational committees and is a past president of the Boston Association for the Education of Young Children. She has served as Clerk for the Board of Managers at the Village Condominium Association since 2007.

Maria E. Rupp

I have been a VCA Board member since 1995 and Treasurer since 1996. Thank you so very much for your confidence and support. A fiscal conservative, I have done my best to ensure our funds are invested and used wisely.

As an architect and planner I take a particular interest in improving our building maintenance and landscape services. Major replacement and repair needs continue to plague us. This year we will continue replacement of aging roofs, and deteriorated shutters. Exterior lantern underground wiring continues to deteriorate and needs replacement as do several sewer lines. Carpentry, masonry and paving replacement remain on-going major projects. My experience on the Board and professional training can help to monitor these projects effectively.

Prior to my first candidacy for the Board I was a member of the Budget and Landscape Committees. As a past Trustee of a Cambridge Condominium Association, I bring to the Village six years of prior experience as treasurer as well as professional experience in facility planning, project management and construction administration. In recent years I have had the privilege of working with the Community Housing Foundation consulting on housing privatization in central Europe.

Once again I take this opportunity to ask for your support and hope for the opportunity to continue to serve you for another term.
